Dyslexia is a specific learning disability. This means if you are dyslexic, you will experience problems in your ability to learn – mainly in reading and writing. Dyslexia has no effect on intelligence.
There are 3 main types of dyslexia:
- Phonological (difficulty breaking sounds into parts)
- Surface (difficulty seeing entire words)
- Visual (visual processing and remembering words)
Main characteristics of dyslexics:
- Visual
- Great spatial perception
- Challenges with reading and writing
- Difficulty with verbal communication
- Sees big picture rather than details
- Trouble with sequences
- Good at problem-solving
- Good pattern-recognition
