Dyslexia

Dyslexia is a specific learning disability. This means if you are dyslexic, you will experience problems in your ability to learn – mainly in reading and writing. Dyslexia has no effect on intelligence.

There are 3 main types of dyslexia:

  • Phonological (difficulty breaking sounds into parts)
  • Surface (difficulty seeing entire words)
  • Visual (visual processing and remembering words)

Main characteristics of dyslexics:

  • Visual
  • Great spatial perception
  • Challenges with reading and writing
  • Difficulty with verbal communication
  • Sees big picture rather than details
  • Trouble with sequences
  • Good at problem-solving
  • Good pattern-recognition
